The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the residence of Kanai Das, a retired police officer and former bodyguard of ex-minister Paresh Chandra Adhikary, in Jalpaiguri this morning. The raid is part of a larger investigation into drug trafficking activities in the region. CBI officials, accompanied by central forces, sealed off the area during the operation, which has raised concerns about the scale of the case.
Kanai Das’s son, Deepankar Das, a former police officer in Cooch Behar, became a personal bodyguard to Paresh Chandra Adhikary. Deepankar currently serves as a security guard at the Jalpaiguri District Police Superintendent’s residence. The CBI confirmed that the raid was connected to an ongoing drug investigation, and several key documents were seized from the property.
Kanai Das’s elder son, Dibas Das, who works in the private sector, mentioned that the CBI personnel arrived for official departmental work. The investigation, still in its early stages, is focused on uncovering the links between local figures and the growing drug trade in the area. As of now, there has been no further information regarding any direct involvement of Paresh Chandra Adhikary in the case.
